Annamarie Starcher (Czajkowski)

Annamarie Starcher (Czajkowski)

Annamarie Starcher Czajkowski was born January 22, 1944 and passed away on August 7, 2021.  Annamarie attended Park Elementary and Everett Junior High before starting LHS.  Many generations of Annamarie's family attended Park Elementary School.  After graduating from LHS,  Annamarie was married at the Lincoln Air Force Base Chapel to John Czajkowski who was from Detroit and serving in the AF at the Lincoln Base.  Soon they were assigned to duty in France where their son, Mark, was born in 1965.  Annamarie felt deep loyalty to the military and enjoyed working in the 1960's for the USO.  Throughout her life she supported US Veterans' causes and displayed her respect on Veterans Day and Memorial Day.  She also made regular donations to organizations that supported returning veterans such as VFW and Disabled American Veterans.

Annamarie worked for many years at the UNL Ticket Office and this position along with working events at Pershing Municipal Auditorium had enormous benefits for her son, Mark and granddaughters and brother, Robert.  The family was supplied with tickets to all the "cool" events.  And best of all they had Husker Football season tickets located on the East side, Sec. 4, Row 15, Seats 1 & 2.  The family recognizes that was a great perk!  In retirement, Annamarie worked for a while in the public schools as a paraeducator through Aging Partners.

Annamarie loved to read, especially magazines like The Smithsonian and National Geographic and anything on the subjects of our earth, history and the environment.  She loved her long-haired dachshunds, having had two over the years.  Annamarie was a fan of Sherlock Holmes, an avid collector of Disney memorabilia and Emmett (Kelly) the Clown memorabilia.

Annamarie is survived by her son, Mark, two granddaughters Morgan and Riley and her brother Robert and his family.  She was preceded in death by her husband and older brother, Jerry (LHS '59) and grandson, Jordan.  Annamarie was grateful for and thoroughly enjoyed supporting and being with her granddaugters, son and brother and his family.

Annamarie was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and died only two months later.  At Annamarie's direction, her remains were donated to UNMC for the purpose of medical research.

Brother Robert was kind enough to provide this summary of Annamarie's life.  To him we are grateful and send our condolences from the LHS Class of '61.
