Astrida A. Augstums

 

Astrida earned a Bachelors Degree in 1965 and a Masters Degree in 1967 from UNL, both in Music.  She played in the Lincoln Symphony Orchestra for five years.  She then taught at Mary College, Bismarck, ND, on a National Teaching Fellowship and at Lincoln University in Jefferson City, MO, teaching string instruments and music theory.  Astrida returned to Lincoln and worked as a music teacher.  Astrida belonged to the American Association of University Professors, the American String Teachers Association and the American Guild of Organists.  Astrida died June 1, 1999.

Joan D. Rockwell (Brannigan)

Astrida and I were not close but did cross paths. She was very shy and it was hard for me to talk with her. We were both music majors at the University of Nebraska. I believe that she went on to receive a masters degree because I know that she later became a college teacher in a small college in Missouri.
