Word has reached 1961 classmates that Joe died Friday, September 7, 2012.  Good friends, Larry Phillips and Judy Cline Glathar, were notified by members of Joe's family.  Several months ago Joe was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer, too advanced to be successfully impacted by chemotherapy treatments.  Very recently Joe suffered a paralyzing stroke and died early on Friday morning.  Sincere condolences go out to Joe’s family.

Joe Damian, 70, of Lincoln, died September 7, 2012. Mr. Damian was born June 10, 1942 to Jesus and Maria (Arenas) Damian in Lincoln. Joe retired from Burlington Northern as a pipefitter. He was a graduate of Lincoln High School, class of 1961. He served his country in Vietnam in the U.S. Army and was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Joe loved visiting with friends and helping family and watching his grandchildren play sports. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR.

Joe is survived by his children, Angie Miller of Minden, Mike Damian of Chicago; significant other, Wanda Medina of Lincoln; siblings, Raulo (Wilma) Damian, Louie (Beatrice) Damian, Lupe Damian, Sal (Pat) Damian and Henry Damian; brother-in-law, William Wallman; grandchildren, Jonathan and Thomas Miller; their father, Jon Miller; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Jess, Alfonso, Frank and Carmen.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 am on Monday, September 10, 2012 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Fr. Douglas Dietrich will officiate. Inurnment will be at a later time in Calvary Cemetery. There will be no public visitation as Mr. Damian's wishes were to be cremated. Memorials are suggested to the family. I was to sorry to hear about Joe.  I went through school with Joe - Bancroft, Whittier, and LHS.  My most vivid memories of him are from Bancroft.  He was so "cute", (as we used to say back then) and such a nice person to talk with.  Always kind, interested in what you had to say, and very funny, too!  Gone too soon.  R.I.P.

 Joe was my friend and he will be missed. I have many fond memories of Joe and I throughout our 56 years of friendship.
