Sharon grew up on the same street as I did, South 28th, St. during our early elementary Elliott School days. We had played together outdoors and in her house as her mom was good at finding crafts for kids. It would seem a wonderful summer for kids. But that changed. One of the most dramatic experiences of my childhood happened as we played on her front porch. I remember it as the time we escaped being lured into a small black coup car. The man got out of his car and called to us to come and talk to him. Having both been warned by our parents about strangers, we stayed on the front porch, then Sharon went inside and told her mom about the man. He drove away , but came back in 5 minutes. Her mom called the police, and it turned out he was wanted for molesting children. That began an odyssey, of events I remember clearly to this day. We went to the police station with Sharon’s mom, to identify the man in a police lineup, one at a time. Then, pick out the car from others in the police impound garage. The experience was very traumatic for nine year olds. Soon after Sharon’s family moved and I didn’t see her again until high school.
Later, I remember Sharon having an artistic flair, as did her mom.
