Mervyn L. Wilson

After graduating from LHS Mervyn joined the Navy, served as a Sea Bee and completed a tour in Viet Nam.  He was the victim of the effects of Agent Orange, which resulted in lung and heart problems.  Mervyn returned to Lincoln after being discharged from the Navy.  He was employed as a police officer with the city of Lincoln, a security guard for UNL and a guard at the Nebraska State Penitentiary.  He lived in AZ for a time and on returning to Lincoln he worked for Alltel many years as a mechanic.  He retired in 2005 and shortly after his retirement suffered a heart attack.  During his retirement years Mervyn continued to enjoy his favorite hobbies:  fishing, hunting, gun collecting and his memberships in the NRA and VFW Post #131.   Mervyn died September 21, 2010 of a second heart attack.  He is survived by three stepchildren and his sister, Barbara Wilson Allen, LHS Class of ’58.  Barbara graciously provided this information of her brother’s life.
