Cheris was living in Pell City, Alabama at the time of her death, November 2, 1997. She had been diabetic for most of her life. She was the mother of two daughers, Lisa and Linda and had two grandchildren. In a note from her daughter, Lisa, she shared that Cheris was an artist, focusing mostly on painting. She also was a seamstress. Lisa continued, "She was a dedicated and loving mother. I will always remember our wonderful moments."

Cheris was the first person I knew with diabetes and she always was careful about what she ate. She was a very sweet person; I remember her as a warm & friendly. There were a few times we walked home together as sophmores & stopped at the Drug Store on 27th & Randolph, for a coke. There, we would part ways to head home.Her smile is one I remeber too.
