William H. Wurm

William H. Wurm

Bill and his wife, Jan, had a significant role in planning the Class of 1961 50th Class Reunion.  We all mourn his passing.

William H. "Bill" Wurm, 68, of Bennet, died February 5, 2012 after a long courageous battle with cancer. Bill was born December 15, 1943 to Karl and Fredora Wurm in Lincoln. He attended Trinity Lutheran and Lincoln High Schools. Bill was united in marriage to Janet English July 6, 1963 in Bennet. He lived in Lincoln for ten years until moving to Bennet. Bill retired from the retail grocery business after 50 years. He started his working career stocking shelves at the neighborhood corner market at the age of 12 for a candy bar and a can of pop. After his retirement from the grocery business Bill worked part time for Hamilton Service as an inventory specialist. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, riding his horses; Promise and Scout, his adopted shed cat, Louie; and mostly spending time with his family and friends.

Survived by his wife of 48 1/2 years, Janet; daughter, Loree (Roger) Woods of Lincoln; son, Marty (Kanda) Wurm of Lincoln; grandchildren, Trevin and fiance Katie Stauffer, Jalyn and Garrett Wurm and Taylor Woods all of Lincoln; step-grandson, Ashley (Carrie) Woods of Raymond; sister, Marge (Tom) Mero of Lincoln; sister-in-law, Nanci Wurm of Bennet; brother-in-laws, Gary (Carolyn) English of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Richard Olson of Crete; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. Preceded in death by his parents; mother and father-in-law, Dean (Marvel) English; brother, James Wurm; sister-in-law, Marlene Olson; step-granddaughter, Caylee Woods; his horse, Promise.

Co-workers of Hamilton Service served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers included store employees from Hinky Dinky, Dallman's IGA, B&R Stores and the Class of 1961 Lincoln High Links. A celebration of Bill's life was held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, February 9, 2012 at the Bennet Community Church. Rev. Darin Corder officiated. The family requested Western or casual attire. Music choices appropriately reflected Bill's incredibly happy life:  "Amazing Grace", "The Lord's Prayer", "Beyond the Sunset" and "Happy Trails".
