Gerald G. Stricker

Gerald G. Stricker

July 8, 1943 – December 30, 2023

Gerald “Jerry” Gordon Stricker, age 80, on Dec. 30, went to be with his Lord. Jerry was born in San Francisco, California, on July 8, 1943, to Merle and Lucile Stricker. The family moved to Lincoln a few years later.

Jerry graduated from Lincoln High School in 1961 and went on to study mechanical engineering at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. During College he paid his way, working at Wendelin Bakery on South Street. It was there that he met his future wife, Gaye Paulette Kess.

Upon graduation from the university, Jerry was employed by Brunswick Corporation during the Vietnam War, working on missile projects. After five years at Brunswick Corporation, Jerry transitioned to a position working for his father-in-law’s company, Paul L. Kess Inc. in Lincoln. He had done some work for Kess during college as an estimator.

He and Gaye were married on April 2, 1966. They welcomed a daughter, Nicole (Nikki), in 1972 and a son, Matthew (Matt), in 1975. As his children grew up, Jerry connected with Nikki through sports and Matt through the family business.

After several years working side-by-side with his father-in-law, Jerry bought the company. He dedicated 45 years of his life to it, expanding and growing it.

Before retiring at age 73, Jerry spent about eight years teaching his son Matt the ropes, who eventually took it over. He said it was a bright spot in his life.

On Sept. 23, 1979, Jerry had a pivotal experience as he surrendered his life to Jesus Christ. Jerry spent hours in the Word, writing observations that would help him navigate through life as he faced multiple bouts with cancer.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Gaye Stricker, daughter Nicole (David) Best of Missoula, MT, son Matthew (Jane) Stricker of Lincoln and grandchildren Brooke Best, Maizie, and Cruz Stricker, his sister and brother-in-law, Patricia (LHS '64) and John Snowden (LHS '61) of Lincoln, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Merle and Lucile Stricker.

A memorial celebration of life for Jerry was held at 11:00 am Friday, January 5, 2024, at Lincoln Berean Church, 6400 S 70th St., Lincoln, NE 68516. The funeral was live-streamed at www.lincolnberean.org/funerallive

Memorials may be given to the family to be designated at a later time.
