Randolph Elementary-Irving JR. High-LHS-Southeast Community College- AA Degree in Environmental Technology.
In the past Phyllis & I volunteered at Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach and Meals on Wheels.
I had something to do with records for the Juke Box.
In 2011 my best friend Phyllis Maurer and I celebrated our 35th anniversary.
I spent 4 years in the Army as an MP, including 13 months in Korea. My last duty station was at Fort Ritchie Maryland where our company did security deep underground where top government officials would go in the event of a nuculer attack. This is a very high level security location, patroled above by MP dog handlers. We also served as honor guard for military funerals.
For a little over 10 years I was a programmer(DJ) at Lincoln's community radio station KZUM. My program was called Sagebrush Serenade, taken from the Poco song of the same name, which was my into. I described the music I played as accoustic, bluegrass, country/country rock and everything in between. The highlight of my years at KZUM was when a blind programer and I did a live feed from the Zoo Bar for a local bluegrass band Cold Spring.
I worked 17 years as a lab technician for the Natural Resources Conservation Service, a branch of the USDA. I retired after 20 years of government work in 2006-one of the best moves I've made.
Now I'm a writer. I've had short stories published in regional publications, two anthologies, and three of Mary Jane Nielson's books( Life In Lincoln...As I Remember It, When I Was A Kid, and Game Day Memories.) My column A Senior Moment has appeared for the last four years in Lincoln' seniors paper 55+.
I will be submitting over the next few months and next year some of my short stories in the crime and paranormal genra's. My newest book published in 2020, ANGELS AMONG US, is now available on line at Barnes & Nobel and Amazon.

Five years later we would meet again in Rock Bluff Nebraska. I did not cherish the thought. I faced the hardest decion I've ever made in my life." -Calvin Hawk
Under Nebraska Skies won 2nd place in the 2008 Aspiring Authors Writing Contest. In 2011 this story placed 2nd in the fiction catergory for the People's Choice Award from The Storyteller magazine. This represents the third publication of this story.
At the end of his search, Marquez discovers a sickly woman with old secrets and a treasure.
What changes will those secrets make in his life?
Does he take the lady's treasure and ride?
Marques was previously published in The Storyteller magazine.
LAST ASSIGNMENT is now available for FREE at Barnes & Noble. Hopefully Amazon will be dropping the .99 price as well. The reason we(my publisher and I) are giving this story away is because it is shorter than most short stories, coming in at a little over 1500 words, however, there is a bonus at the end of LAST ASSIGNMENT.
