In Memory

Ronald E. Bauers

Ronald E. Bauers

Wednesday, March 6, 2019, in the afternoon, Ron peacefully passed away, attended to with love and care by his life-long partner, Ann.  Ann shared that Ron's passing was peaceful and she asked that classmates be informed, which was Ron's wish.

Ron was born July 23, 1942 and lived in Lincoln throughout his life.  Following high school graduation, he attended University of Nebraska.  He enlisted in the military but was prevented from serving due to a physical disability.  Ron married and had three children:  Debbie, Sean and Steve.  He has several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. For many years Ron worked as Shipping Supervisor for Pure Water, then with Lincoln Electric Supply.  In Ron's retirement years he worked as an All-Around Handyman for Friendship Home, a domestic violence residence for women and children.  Ron was a very active member of Lincoln Optimist Club and volunteered extensively for his club, providing many opportunites for the Lincoln community.  In that same volunteer spirit, Ron was always the "host extraordinaire" for our LHS Class of 1961 Reunion Hospitality Room.  Throughout every hour/day of each reunion, the hospitality room was always open, always well stocked, always welcoming and always full!  Word has it that "Host In Training", Bob Marker is thoroughly trained and ready to carry on.

At Ron's request, a funeral or memorial service was not to be held.  Celebration of Life gathering will be held on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at Mulligan's on 56th and Highway 2 between 6:00 and 8:00 PM. Ron's final wishes were to "go to a bar, have a drink and remember good times."  So let's celebrate Ron's life doing just that.  All classmates and friends are welcome!  Drop in and raise a glass.

Ron - it was so nice getting reacquainted with you after 50 years and really enjoyed your company.  Always so upbeat and positive, never complaining.  May you rest in peace.

The news of Rons death broke my heart. It was expected but still hard to take. We worked together for Harry Kuklin at Muny pool then woods for seven years and had a long time bond. Ron was a true gentleman, kind, helpful and looked for ways to do things for others . Reunions won't be the same. I still laugh when I remember him entering the reunion with speedos, flippers and snorklel. Always there for a good time!  He will be missed by all who knew him. RIP dear friend.

Ron was always a very good friend and a great teammate. We spent three years on LHS swimming team. Ron was an exceptional swimmer BUT he was  great in the backstroke. He manage to take state all three years in the backstroke. A true champion!  Rest In Peace my friend, we are missing you.

It's difficult to imagine such a bright light has been extinguished.  We shared many laughs and great memories, and to say Ron will be missed is an understatement.  My sympathies to his family and to those Links who became even closer to Ron after graduation.

I’ve not known any classmate who has received as many accolades as our dear Ron. It is obvious that he was loved by many and has left a lot of sweet memories in so many hearts. It was an honor to have known him and I feel so blessed that he was in my life. Rest In Peace.

So many fond memories going back to our junior high days at Whittier.  Ron was always a happy, positive person back then.  He didn't change.  He will be missed at our class reunions.

Our deepest sympathies to his family.
